DIT Student Marketing project available to Hothouse Participant Startups

Please see below the offer of student projects in the area of Digital Marketing.

If you are interested who should you contact

donnacha.ryan@dit.ie – stating that you are a DIT Hothouse New Frontiers participant.

The subject area and scope of the student project

Digital marketing:- with possibly elements of the following:-strategy, campaign execution and analysis with a strong ‘doing hands on’ element.
– to involve a group of 4 students from the final marketing degree program liaising and agreeing their involvement to the mutual agreement of group and firm. Wide open otherwise as long as both parties are happy and benefits accrue fairly to both parties.
Examples might include social media channels, Adwords/PPC, email, blogs, SEO, website usability, testing etc and attendant performance metrics and analysis.

The commitment required from the startup

Provide the students with brief document descriptors for…
– The firm’s broad business profile and current digital profile and activity to be briefly described
– identify briefly the typical digital marketing tasks that can be envisaged for their involvement and later to be teased out in detail and mutually agreed
Modest management time and involvement in the early stages of the process and thereafter at minimum a weekly interface as suits/or as appropriate eg. P2P, skype, Podio, FB, email etc so as to manage the workflow, expectations and relationship. It is intended as a fair 2-way gain scenario for both parties

The desired outcome of this project

– Provide a well defined digital marketing campaign for your company and for a well defined period of time (mid/late September to late February)
– To also result in real benefits to the firm in not only digital marketing but possibly marketing analysis and strategy if appropriate.

Details of Students

They are year 4 undergraduates at DIT in the BSc honours degree in Marketing (DT341).

The ideal match in terms of a startup partner for this student project

A company preferably with a website already developed and traffic flow but want to develop strategies digitally and execute digital campaigns even if a very small budget applies or indeed none.others will be considered on their merit also.

A company who views the group as a resource- NOT full-time INTERNS- with other course commitments but a real zeal and professionalism that will yield strong dividends if managed properly and good communication is in place. Generally to provide a good digital experience and a good relationship with a keen to engage group ready to go without delay from late September on.

Mick Birmingham

GigStarter

Mick Birmingham

E: mick@gigstarter.com

Company Name: GigStarter

Company Profile:
The global concert industry is worth 23.5 billion annually, but it’s a risky business.
Promoters, be them the bands themselves or specialist firms, often lose money if tickets don’t sell. As a result, unless they are confident a show will not lose money, they won’t go ahead with it. Even then, they don’t get it right all the time (98% of our respondents said they had lost money). So, they’re risk averse. Artists lose shows and fans miss out.
The concert industry has not incorporated tech/data tools, to support their sales and marketing. Knowing who went to your last show, is very valuable information, but the industry leaders aren’t providing this to those that want it.

Gigstarter lets artists/promoters float the possibility of a show, setting a sales threshold, below which the show won’t go ahead. The fans commit, buy conditional tickets, but aren’t charged until the threshold is reached and the show is confirmed. Shows won’t lose money and fans are incentivised to promote the show to their peers. The result: Promoters can be more bullish, artists can play more, and fans can pool together to invite, and pay for, the artist they love to play their town. Turning the industry from supply push to demand pull.
